Carlisle United continue talk over Asamoah contract extension

Derek Asamoah is now technically free to leave Carlisle and find himself a new club.

Keith Curle has told the News & Star that he's hopeful of keeping the veteran striker though with talks ongoing over the possibility of extending his contract further after something of mixed bag during his initial short-term spell at Brunton Park.

Asamoah is a player that Curle knows well from his previous time working with the former Ghanaian international but with him 'going off the boil' after his instant impact he knows that he'll have to show that best form again to get a new deal, which he hopes he can with talks on a new deal 'ongoing.'

He said: 'Derek was able to show what he can do when he first came into the club.

'We need him to recapture that, but also we need to recapture our bit of momentum and form as well. I know what Derek can do.'
