The Godwin Obaseki Girls defeated the Ethiopians 3-0 to go top of the log courtesy of goals from Folashade Ijamilusi and Goodness Osigwe.
It was Essien who began the fine display with an early goal after scoring from close range just 5 minutes into the encounter.
After the first half had ended 1-0, Ijamilusi doubled the lead on 54 minute before Osigwe rounded off the score with an 80 minute goal for Edo Queens.
The Nigeria Women Football League champions will now keep a date with fellow match day 1 winner, Masar on Wednesday for their next match of the competition.
