It was end of the road for the last Nigeria club representative, Rivers United in the CAF Champions League following a heavy defeat to Wydad Athletic.

United fell by a 6-0 thrashing by the Moroccan team in the second leg of the second preliminary round on Sunday at the Mohammed Stadium.

After a 2-1 win in the first leg in Portharcourt, the Nigeria applied caution in their play while the Moroccan team was firing in all cylinders giving goalkeeper Seidu a lot of work in the early stages of the game.

After the half hour mark, the host opened score in the 32nd minute by  A. EL Amloud.

Five minutes later Rivers woes were about to be compounded. A penalty was awarded to the host as goalkeeper Seidu Mutawakilu wass sent off.

Y. Jabrane made it two for Wydad from the spot kick.

From then on it was trouble for the Nigeria league champions as the reduction of personnel gave rooms for the host to punish them when the second half began.

49th minute into the gam and it was three already courtesy of  J. Sambou and at this point it was more frustration for Rivers.

Eleven minutes later, the fourth goal as Sambou scored his brace to put the match beyond Rivers.

It was just a matter of time before the fifth goal will come and it came Jabrane again in the 69th minute through the penalty spot adding more salt to the injury of the away side.

But they were not done yet as H. Ahadad completed the annihilation scoring in the 90th minute to make it 6-0.

It ends 6-0 (7-2 on aggregate) for Wydad to progress to the group stage of the competition while Rivers United drop to the CAF Confederation Cup.
