Nigeria's Akinbinu Samuel recorded his first competitive goal on Sunday for El Merriekh in Kenya as Gor Mahia put 5 past the Sudanese in the first preliminary rounds of the 2024/25 CAF Champions League season, Nigeriasoccernet.com can report.
Leading 1-0 from the first leg, Samuel increased El Merriekh's aggregate lead to 2-0 with 8 minutes into the game scoring the first goal of the encounter to put the Sudanese side 1-0 ahead on the evening in Kenya.
However, his team went to sleep allowing the host to draw level 3 minutes later, and 22 minutes into the encounter, Gor Mahia took the lead through Alpha. Alphonse Omija gave Gor Mahia a comfortable lead going into the break as his goal in the 35th minute made it 3-1 for the host.
Needing a goal to draw them level on aggregate, El Merriekh pushed forward, leaving their defense vulnerable, a decision that saw them concede their 4th goal in the 81st minute.
The host completed the massacre in the 2nd minute of the additional time as the game finished 5-1 on aggregate, sending the Nigerian-born-Djibouti attacker and his team out of the CAF Champions League campaign.
