CAFCL: Rivers United dump Watanga FC out of Africa

Published on: 18 September 2022

Rivers United were on the losing side in their CAF champions second leg preliminary round tie against Watanga FC, but qualified on goal aggregate.

The pride of Rivers fell by one goal to nil at the SKD Stadium in Liberia, but it was to no effect as their first leg three nil win at home earned them a 3-1 result overall.

Watanga were in the lead following several instances of pressure when the centre referee gave a penalty which was converted by Farsedu Logan in the 16th minute.

The first half ended that way as the home side went into the tunnel with a ray of hope.

Rivers United came out better, keeping the game at their own pace, but couldn't score.

It would seem later that the Nigeria cLub side were satisfied with the result as it were as the encounter stayed 1-0 till the end.

Rivers United will go against defending champions Wydad Casablanca of Morocco in the next round.
