Nigeria's sole representative in the CAF Confederation Cup, Rivers United began their group stage campaign match with a comfortable win over Angola's Académica Petroleos Club do Lobito, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The pride of Rivers eased pass the Angolans 3-0 after 90 minutes at the Godswil Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.

There was no much problem for the host as they got the game up and running as early as the 4th minute with Samuel Antwi finishing in superb fashion.

Paul Odeh made it two just after the start of the second half, powering home what could easily be the goal of matchday one - a thunder bolt from over 25 yards out.

Shedrack Asiegbu made it 3-0 after Alex Oyowah set him up which he hit well to beat goalkeeper Badrick in the half hour mark.

The win takes the 2022 Nigeria Premier Football League champions top of the group with better goal difference ahead of second place Club African.

United play Dreams FC on Sunday December 3 in their next CAF Confederation's Cup group stage tie at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi Ghana.
