The Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) reaffirmed its commitment to the growth of women's football and technical advancement during two critical meetings held in Cairo, Egypt, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Presided over by CAF Vice-President and Women's Football Committee Chairperson Kanizat Ibrahim, the women's football organizing committee convened to discuss strategies for further developing the women's game.
CAF has significantly boosted the prize money for the CAF Women's Champions League, raising it from USD 400,000 to USD 600,000. This substantial investment underscores the organization's dedication to elevating the competition and empowering female footballers.
Among the key discussions is fostering Women's Futsal; the committee explored opportunities to develop women's futsal, recognizing its potential to attract new audiences and provide additional pathways for female players.
Capacity building and professionalization were focused on as they looked to build initiatives to enhance the skills and knowledge of women's football administrators, coaches, and players. This includes creating sustainable career paths and providing access to training programs. The committee emphasized the importance of using football as a tool for social change, empowering women, and fostering community development.
The Technical Committee also convened to discuss various technical aspects of the game, including refereeing, coaching, and player development. Key topics included: referee development which is majorly enhancing refereeing standards and providing opportunities for continuous education.
Coaching education entails developing comprehensive coaching programs to equip coaches with the latest techniques and methodologies. Player development as well as implementing strategies to identify and nurture young talent, and promoting youth development programs.
Kanizat Ibrahim expressed her satisfaction with the outcomes of both meetings: "The Women's Committee and the Development Committee are crucial in addressing key development matters. It was an important opportunity to bring together two committees who are passionate about advancing African football, with a particular focus on women."
She further emphasized the importance of collaboration and innovation in driving the growth of African football: "The collective efforts and dedication to the game are truly paying off. I am confident that, with these continued efforts, the future of women's football and African football in general will be successful."
