Former Super Eagles Captain and Coach, Stephen Keshi was honored in Egypt on Friday by the Africa football fraternity before the draw for the Third Round qualifiers of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.Keshi, who passed on June 8, was remembered for his contributions to Nigeria and African football.
He was former Gaffer of Togo , and helped them qualify for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. He also won the 2013 Afcon – becoming the second person to achieve the feat as player and coach – and subsequently helped Nigeria to the 2014 World Cup; Nigeria’s 5th appearance, reaching the round of 16.
A brief documentary of the achievements of the Nigerian Icon was viewed in the by the delegates, who showed deep and sincere affection for the one whose story reeled on the screens. A minute’s silence was observed just before the draw process commenced inside the hall and it tailed off with a quote from the President of CAF, Issa Hayatou.
It read: ” Even if Stephen Keshi left us too early, he achieved an incredible career, both as a player and as a coach…He was a Jewel.”
