The draw for the 2022-2023 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup was held on Monday 12 December in Cairo, Egypt. And Nigeria’s only representative in continental club football competition this year, Rivers United have been drawn in the Group B.

The Nigerian Football Professional League Champions have be drawn with Asec Mimosa of Ivory Coast, Diables Noirs of the Republic of Congo and DC Motemba Pembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In Group A, USM Alger of Algeria will compete for the top spot with Marumo Gallants South Africa, Al Akhdar Liberia, and Saint-Eloi Lupopo of the Republic of Congo.

Pyramids of Egypt, ASKO Kara of Togo, Future of Egypt, and FAR Rabat of Morocco will slug it out in Group C.

While in Group D, TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo, US Monastir Tunisia, Young Africans Tanzania, and Real Bamako of Mali will battle for the top spots.

The Port Harcourt-based team will travel away to Diables Noir for their first game on February 12, before they welcome ASEC Mimosas a week later.

While Enyimba are two-time African champions having won the CAF Champions League in 2003 and 2004, no Nigerian team has won the Confederation Cup since it was founded in 2004, a narrative Rivers United will hope to change this term.
