CAF CL: Enyimba Crash Out

Published on: 16 August 2016

Zamalek SC’s Basem Morsy scored from the spot in the 63rd minute to seal the fate of NPFL champions, Enyimba FC as they crashed out of this season’s CAF Champions League yesterday.

The two-time CAF CL champions had gone into the tie hoping to get a win and perhaps keep their hopes of reaching the knockout rounds with another win at home against Group B leader, Mamelodi Sundowns.

However the story turn out differently as the Peoples’ Elephant had failed to turn the corner recent times after a string of uninspiring results on the home front.

The team knew the import of keeping Nigeria’s flag flying in the competition but neither the promises of the players or Coach, Paul Aigbogun ever seemed to be reassuring.

Nigeria’s only representative on the continent in this season’s club competition could save face against Mamelodi Sundowns and secure any form of result but a defeat to erase the zero point still evident on the board after 3 games in group b.
