CAF Awards: Nigerian Lawmakers Hail Lookman,  Nnadozie, and Super Falcons

The Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Honourable Kabiru Amadu, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Nigerian football icons recognized at the 2024 CAF Awards, Nigeriasoccernet.com can report.

Topping the list is Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman, who clinched the prestigious African Footballer of the Year award, cementing his status as one of the continent's finest players.

Lookman, who dazzled in his role as a winger for Atalanta, edged out formidable competitors, including Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, Ivory Coast’s Simon Adingra, and Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy, to claim the coveted title. His success underscores his consistent brilliance, resilience, and the Nigerian spirit of perseverance.

In his statement, Honourable Amadu, who represents the Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, lauded Lookman’s achievement, saying, "Winning the African Footballer of the Year award is a testament to Ademola Lookman’s hard work and consistency. It highlights the rich talent pool Nigeria boasts, further solidifying our place as the leading football nation in Africa."

The Chairman expressed optimism that Lookman’s triumph could inspire the Super Eagles as they aim to reignite their campaign for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. “This victory should catalyze for our national team to regain momentum. I believe the Super Eagles have what it takes to achieve global football glory," he added.

Recognition for Women's Football

The CAF Awards also honored Nigeria’s excellence in women’s football. Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie received the Best Women’s Goalkeeper award, reflecting her exceptional skills and unwavering dedication. Additionally, the Super Falcons were named the Women’s Team of the Year, celebrating their outstanding performance on the continent.

Honourable Amadu pledged continued support for women’s football, emphasizing its importance in maintaining Nigeria’s dominance in African sports. “The House Committee on Sports remains committed to fostering growth in women’s football. We will collaborate with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to ensure that our women’s teams retain their top position in Africa,” he stated.
