A total of 172 goals have been scored in the first five rounds of this season’s Bundesliga, an average of 3.8 per game and a new record for the competition.
The previous best was 170 goals, set during the 1984-85 season.
The attacking figures have also been reflected across the division, with eight teams already having scored at least 10 goals. At the same stage last season, only five clubs had reached that total.
Bayern Munich lead the scoring charts with 16 goals, although that is four fewer than they had managed after five rounds a year ago, when they had scored 22.
Despite their tally, Bayern Munich trail Freiburg and Borussia Dortmund on points, with both clubs having been more efficient so far this season.
