Mario Götze toyed with the idea of ??leaving PSV Eindhoven in the expired transfer window. "Of course there was the thought," confirms the 29-year-old in an interview with 'Bild'. At the time, Götze had just failed to qualify for the Champions League with the Dutch:

“The Champions League is very important to me. I am now playing my twelfth season as a professional, of which I have played nine times in the Champions League. But of course it's not just about that. A lot has to fit: environment, coach, team. And that's what makes me feel very comfortable here."

For this reason, Götze recently had to extend it instead of saying goodbye. The working paper of the offensive player, who moved to Eindhoven in 2020, is now dated until 2024. Obviously Götze would not have thought that it would come to that:

“No. But of course it is always important to see how everything develops. How does it fit with the trainer? How does the philosophy of the association suit me? How is it going on in general? Everything happens very quickly in football, so it is difficult to make long-term predictions right from the start. But now it feels very good."
