Matheus Cunha, the Olympic gold medalist from Brazil, was left out of Hertha Berlin's matchday squad on Saturday, with the Bundesliga club allegedly negotiating his move to Atletico Madrid.
Hertha has made it "quite plain" that they want about 30 million euros ($35 million) for Cunha, 22, according to Fredi Bobic, Hertha's sports director.
"However, the cost is obvious. If the offer is below his current market worth, I would not sell him "Bobic asserted, without specifying which teams he was referring to.
Cunha scored in the men's final of the Tokyo Olympics when Brazil overcame Spain 2-1 after extra time to earn the gold medal. Atletico is believed to be negotiating over a transfer cost for Cunha.
Because of the transfer talks, Hertha decided to rest Cunha for Saturday's league match against VfL Wolfsburg.
Bobic confessed, "That also plays a part. This entire combo causes some players to lose focus."
Cunha, on the other hand, was dropped as an "educational measure" following a poor performance in the team's season-opening loss to Cologne, said Hertha coach Pal Dardai
Dardai complained, "He's been wandering a little too much lately."
