Bernard Mensah has been named in the Ghana squad for the Mauritius game

Ghana coach Avram Grant has named debutante Bernard Mensah in his 23-man squad for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Mauritius this month, the Ghana FA has revealed.

The Portugal-based youngster is among the 23 players called by the Black Stars trainer for the match to be played in Accra.

Coach Grant recalled England-based winger Albert Adomah who returns to the squad for the first time since the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Black Stars assistant captain Andre Ayew was excluded from the squad as he is recovering from injury.

The squad is dominated by players who played for the Black Stars to reach the final of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana will start their camping on Thursday before playing Mauritius in their opening Group G qualifier in Accra on Sunday 14, June.

I do not think Appiah is better than Boakye, but at the AFCONs I do think he played off Gyan, Dede, and Atsu as well as any of the second strikers. While I would like Boakye to get more of a chance, I'm not going to fault Grant for rewarding Kwesi for doing a good job. As for Poku, he needs to play more for NYCFC. With Mix Diskerud spending much of the summer with the US team and Frank Lampard not yet joining the club, this summer could be a great opportunity for him to make an impression.

I love reading the same ol people on here clamouring for their favourites. Ha This looks like a solid squad to me. Nearly the same squad that finished 2nd in AFCON.

I'm not sure Kwesi Appiah is better than Boakye Yiadom or Kwadwo Poku. If the GFA is not 100% sure about Jonathan Mensah's eligibility he should be removed.
