BREAKING: Lesotho FA decides not to protest over South Africa's ineligible Player

Published on: 07 September 2025

The Lesotho Football Association (LFA) has chosen not to challenge South Africa's use of midfielder Teboho Mokoena in their recent 2026 World Cup qualifier, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Mokoena had received bookings in South Africa's matches against Benin in November 2023 and Zimbabwe in November 2024, ruling him out of the match against Lesotho.

According to FIFA regulations, players who accumulate two yellow cards in different matches are required to serve a one-game suspension.

Although Lesotho initially considered protesting the result, which could have led to South Africa losing three points and three goals, they have ultimately decided not to pursue the matter.

The decision not to protest means South Africa will retain the three points from their 2-0 victory over Lesotho.

South Africa currently tops Group C with 16 points, followed by Benin Republic with 11 points, and Nigeria with 10 points.
