Ghana winger Christian Atsu made his debut on Wednesday

Bournemouth coach EDDIE Howe hailed the attributes displayed by Ghana winger Christian Atsu and his other summer recruits as Cherries kicked off their pre-season schedule in style against Philadelphia Union.

Some 24 players got a run out as Cherries rounded off their American odyssey with a 4-1 triumph at PPL Park courtesy of goals from Joshua King, Callum Wilson, Marc Pugh and Tokelo Rantie.

And having run the rule over all six of his new faces, Howe declared himself "satisfied" with the week-long training excursion ahead of the club's Premier League bow.

Howe told the club website: "I thought all of the new guys really put their mark on what they're going to bring to the squad.

"Slyvain Distin with his experience, Christian Atsu showed his ability and flair and while he was on the pitch, Tyrone (Mings) was marauding and looked a real threat so I was delighted.

"We played Joshua (King) in a slightly deeper role and I thought he took his goal really well and looked lively throughout.

"I thought the lads showed a great attitude and mentality to the game. Despite the changes to the line up, it was a true Bournemouth performance so I was very pleased to see us score goals and play so well.

"It has been a really productive week. We have crammed in a lot and the players have had very little spare time. That was a conscious effort on our part, to keep them busy and integrated with each other.

"I think the lads showed very good fitness levels. Both teams faded slightly towards the end of the halves which was understandable given the heat and how hard they had worked in the build up.

"We know we have stuff to work on and improve but I leave satisfied that it has been a very good week."

And Howe had a final word for the Cherries supporters who made the effort to travel stateside.

"It was incredible to see the support," he added. "For the people of Bournemouth to spend their money and take such a long flight shows real dedication.

"To see so many familiar faces is a real credit to them all. Hopefully, we did them proud on the pitch."
