Ghanaian youth international Maxwell Boadu Acosty got sent off moments after coming off the bench for Modena in their 2-1 home loss against Trapani.
The 23-year-old former Black Meteors player had stepped out of the dug-out in the 68th minute to replace Italian midfielder Francesco Fedato but got marched off in the 87th minute.
Boadu was adjudged to have committed an unsporting foul by Luca Pairetto sent him off with a straight red card.
While he came off the bench to play his Ghanaian compatriot Amidu Salifu started the game while youngster Prince Besea was unused by Modena.
