Barnsley Captain Conor Hourihane Being Closely Monitored by Celtic, Rangers and Aston Villa

With only six months remaining on his contract Barnsley midfielder and captain Conor Hourihane has gathered plenty of interest from Scottish Premier League giants Celtic, Rangers and fellow Championship side Aston Villa.

The Irish 25-year-old has been a stand-out performer for the South-Yorkshire club as they continue to battle in the top half of the Championship. Already this season, the Barnsley captain has scored four goals and assisted in nine of Barnsley's goals.

As reported in the Daily Mail, Hourihane has apparently withheld talks on a contract extension to keep him at Oakwell until the summer, which has left rumours of a potential January exit as suitors closely monitor the situation.

Hourihane has been one of the driving forces for Barnsley this season following their promotion to League One to the Championship. However, the Irishman's decision to leave contract talks until the summer could lead to him being sold in the January transfer window for a fee rather than leaving Oakwell for free in the summer.

The 25-year-old's emergence has not gone unnoticed on an international level as well, as Hourihane was named in Martin O'Neil provisional World Cup squad for the Republic of Ireland as he awaits his first senior cap.

With clubs waiting in the wings to secure the Irishman's signature, there is no doubting that Hourihane could be hot property once the January transfer window opens.
