Barcelona v Racing Santander: Hansi Flick considers changes as perfect start faces test

Published on: 15 September 2026

Barcelona welcome Racing Santander to the Estadio Camp Nou on Wednesday night as Hansi Flick attempts to preserve his perfect start to the season before the international break.

The defending Spanish champions have won each of their four LaLiga matches so far, while they also began their UEFA Champions League campaign with victory. A fifth league success would allow Flick’s side to carry further momentum into the pause for international football.

Racing Santander have made a solid return to the top flight and Barcelona may therefore face a competitive test, despite being expected to control the match. Flick is also considering changes to manage the workload of several players who had a limited pre-season after winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Spain.

Jules Kounde and Andreas Christensen are among those who could come into the defence. Barcelona are also considering a recall for Dani Olmo, while Kounde could be restored to the starting line-up.

Frenkie de Jong remains several weeks away from returning from a knee problem. Roony Bardghji will miss the rest of the season after suffering an ACL tear.

The possible Barcelona XI is: J. Garcia; Kounde, Cubarsi, E. Garcia, Cancelo; Rodri, Pedri, Olmo; Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Gordon.

Kick-off at the Estadio Camp Nou is scheduled for 21:30 local time, or 20:30 in the UK.

The fixture will be the first league meeting between Barcelona and Racing Santander since 2012. Barcelona won that match 2-0 away from home, with Lionel Messi scoring both goals.

The teams did meet in last season’s Copa del Rey, however, when Barcelona again recorded a 2-0 victory.
