Barcelona reject Yassir Zabiri move despite Racing Santander striker’s fast start

Hansi Flick has reportedly ruled out a move for Yassir Zabiri, with the FC Barcelona manager unconvinced that the Racing Santander forward is ready to succeed at the highest level.

According to Kicker, Flick has dismissed the prospect of the 21-year-old joining the Catalan club, believing Zabiri does not yet possess the technical and tactical qualities required to establish himself at FC Barcelona.

The Morocco international has made an immediate impact since arriving at Racing Santander following his spell with Stade Rennais. His start to the season has made him one of Spain’s most notable emerging talents.

Zabiri’s first league start produced a hat-trick against Elche, before he scored twice more against Alaves. He now has five goals in five Liga appearances, having delivered half of the 10-goal target he set himself when he moved to Santander.

Despite that record, Flick is not thought to be convinced by the striker’s overall profile. The German coach has reportedly approved the decision not to pursue a potential FC Barcelona approach, with Zabiri considered short of the demands associated with the club’s style and level of competition.

The decision has not stopped interest from elsewhere in Spain. Zabiri’s performances for Racing Santander have attracted attention from Real Betis, Villarreal and Real Sociedad, who are among the clubs said to be monitoring his progress.

Racing Santander appear to have benefited significantly from their decision to sign the Moroccan. His three goals against Elche and subsequent double against Alaves have quickly increased his profile and prompted interest from several leading Spanish sides.

Although the FC Barcelona door is currently closed, Zabiri’s form gives him the opportunity to alter the picture in the months ahead. Continued performances at his current rate would provide him with further chances to challenge doubts about his readiness for the biggest stage.

For now, Flick’s reported position is clear: Zabiri is not heading to FC Barcelona. The striker’s response has come on the pitch, where five goals in five matches have strengthened his case.

FC Barcelona are due to face Racing Santander in the sixth matchday of the Spanish championship. The odds listed by 1xbet make Barcelona the strong favourites at 1,06, with a draw priced at 13,00 and a Racing Santander victory at 23,00.
