Bamidele Yusuf eyes Super Eagles call-up amid stellar Serbian SuperLiga season

Published on: 09 December 2024

Nigerian forward Bamidele Yusuf is making waves in the Serbian SuperLiga, showcasing his talent with a string of remarkable performances that have fueled calls for his inclusion in Nigeria’s Super Eagles squad, Nigeriasoccernet.com writes.

At just 23 years old, Yusuf has emerged as a pivotal player for Vojvodina, notching eight goals and two assists in 17 league appearances this season, and proving himself as one of the most exciting prospects in Serbian football.

Yusuf’s brilliance was on full display in November when he netted all four goals in Vojvodina’s emphatic 4-0 victory against Novi Pazar at the Caizcoin Arena. This historic achievement made him only the second Nigerian to score four goals in an away match for the club, following Vincent Eze.

The striker’s prolific performance extends beyond league fixtures. In the Serbian Cup, Yusuf scored a vital brace in Vojvodina's 3-1 win over Grafi?ar, securing their spot in the quarter-finals. With his contributions, Vojvodina remains in contention for a European competition berth, despite their current seventh-place league standing.

Since joining Vojvodina earlier this season from Radni?ki Niš, where he tallied six goals and five assists in just 16 matches, Yusuf has adapted swiftly to his new team. After a brief adjustment period, he announced his arrival with a stunning brace against Radni?ki in August and has continued to deliver consistently.

Before his Serbian exploits, Yusuf gained experience at Portuguese club Estoril and Slovakian side Spartak Trnava, where he began his European career in 2020. His steady development across these leagues underscores his growing potential.

Now ranked third in the league’s top scorers' chart, Yusuf is optimistic about earning a call-up to Nigeria’s national team, particularly as the Super Eagles prepare for a crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier against Rwanda in March 2025.

"Every footballer dreams of representing their country," Yusuf shared in an interview. "If I receive the call, I’m ready to bring my strengths to the team and contribute with goals."

With his current trajectory, a Super Eagles debut seems not only possible but imminent, adding another chapter to the promising career of this young Nigerian talent.
