Super Falcons coach, Florence Omagbemi has recalled experienced defender, Onome Ebi back to the team after she was dropped from the list of players penciled down for the Africa Women Cup of Nations starting next month in Cameroon.
It was gathered that it was the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF bothered by lack of funds, that trimmed the list of foreign-based players to be invited for the tournament. However, there was a rethink after it dawned on the NFF that Nigeria cannot afford to fail in Cameroon.
“It is good Onome is back; she is one of our best legs. We cannot afford to go to Cameroon with inexperienced players. We are aiming to win the tournament and the NFF must give us all the support we need to pull off the feat,” said one of the team players yesterday.
The Falcons have opened camp in Abuja with the home-based players. The foreign-based players like captain Evelyn Nwanbuoku, Desire Oparanozie, Ebere Orji, Francisca Odega and Onome are expected to join the group two weeks to the tournament.
The Falcons won the 2014 tournament in Namibia without losing a match. They beat Cameroon 2-0 in the final. Nigeria is expected to face tough competition from Ghana, Mali and Kenya in group B of the tournament.
