Australia star Mathew Ryan moves to English Premier League

London: Australia international goalkeeper Mathew Ryan has signed for English Premier League newcomers Brighton & Hove Albion from Valencia, it has been announced.

Ryan joins Brighton, who were promoted to England’s top-flight in May, on a five-year deal, with the south coast side paying an undisclosed club-record fee to land the 25-year-old’s services.

“I'm delighted that we've been able to attract Mathew to the club, and he will certainly be an excellent addition to the squad in time for our first season in the Premier League,” manager Chris Hughton told Brighton’s official website.

Currently on duty with Australia at the FIFA Confederations Cup, Ryan first established himself at A-League outfit Central Coast Mariners, before moving to Europe and Club Brugge in 2013.

The talented custodian - an AFC Asian Cup winner with Australia in January 2015 - subsequently joined La Liga heavyweights Valencia later that year, and ended last season on loan at Belgium’s KRC Genk.
