Former Nigeria’s vice-president Atiku Abubakar has backed the Super Eagles to come out victorious against the Pirates of Seychelles in Friday’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.

Gernot Rohr’s men will only play for pride having already booked their passage into Egypt 2019 following a 1-1 draw against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in their last qualifying game last year at the FNB Stadium, Johannesburg.

The three-time African champions won the reverse fixture 3-0 last year at the Stade Linte and have enough quality to do the double over a side still regarded as one of the minnows in African football.

“Rooting for Team Nigeria tomorrow. Go out and make us proud. #AFCON2019,” Atiku who was Peoples Democratic Party candidate in the recently held Nigeria’s presidential election tweeted.

The Super Eagles will also face the Pharaohs of Egypt in a friendly game at the Stephen Keshi Stadium next week Tuesday.

The three-time AFCON winners failed to qualify for the last two editions of the competition despite their pedigree as one of the best footballing nations in the continent.
