Atalanta moved on to six points from their opening two matches of the 2026-27 Italian championship after Lazar Samardzic scored in the sixth minute of added time to secure victory over Bologna on 31 August.
The Bergamo club began the game at home as the favourites, but Bologna held firm for long periods and frustrated Atalanta’s attempts to find a breakthrough. The visitors were able to deal with the pressure during the first half, leaving the match goalless at the interval.
A key part of Bologna’s resistance was the performance of Poland goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski. He was assured throughout the opening period, making confident interventions and showing no signs of being unsettled as Atalanta searched for an opening.
The expectation of a goal continued after the restart, with the spectators still waiting for either side to break the deadlock. Atalanta remained unable to turn their territorial pressure into a decisive finish, while Bologna continued to protect their goal and keep themselves in contention.
The breakthrough finally arrived deep into stoppage time. With the match approaching its conclusion, Nicola Zalewski supplied the pass for Samardzic, who converted the opportunity and gave the hosts a hard-earned three points.
The goal came in the sixth added minute, ensuring Atalanta completed a difficult evening with a second win from as many league matches. Their maximum total of six points leaves them with a perfect record after two rounds.
For Bologna, the result means they remain without a point after their first two games of the campaign. Their disciplined defensive display had appeared likely to earn at least a draw, but Samardzic’s late intervention changed the outcome at the very end.
Atalanta’s victory was therefore secured only after a contest in which Bologna repeatedly resisted the home side’s attacks. Skorupski’s reliable work in goal helped the visitors preserve parity through the first half, but they could not maintain that resistance until the final whistle.
Zalewski’s assist and Samardzic’s finish ultimately decided the match, giving Atalanta the result their pressure had been seeking and leaving Bologna to reflect on a narrow defeat after holding out for almost the entire game.
