Aston Villa's Promotion Push Handed Fresh Blow as Adama Traore Informs Club He Wants to Leave

Published on: 17 August 2016

"?Aston Villa have been handed a fresh blow as Roberto Di Matteo attempts to return them to the Premier League at the first time of asking, after Adama Traore informed the club he wishes to seek new challenges following the club's relegation last season.

"?Reported in the Birmingham Mail, Traore grew frustrated at his lack of opportunities following his £7m move from Barcelona, despite new manager Di Matteo willing to give the 20-year-old the platform to showcase his talent.

Bought to the club under Tim Sherwood, the Midlands club blew rivals Stoke City out of the water in their pursuit of the youngster, offering him a reported £60k-a-week which he remains on despite the club's relegation.

However the former Catalan starlet was used sparingly under all three managers he worked under during the 2015-16 season.

Sherwood, Remi Garde and Eric Black were unable to weave Traore into their starting eleven on a regular basis, featuring on just 10 occasions of which Villa lost all 10.

Making just 1 assist during his debut Premier League season Garde later stated that he did not feel Traore's understanding of the game was deep enough for England's top flight.

However Di Matteo had recognised the player's potential and was keen to develop the youngster in the Championship.

After becoming available for selection, Traore was included in the matchday 18, with fans excited to see his talents on a more regular basis.

His time with the club appears to be coming to a close though, and will not be considered for the club's upcoming clashes with Derby County and Bristol City.

The news comes just days after new owner Dr. Tony Xia visited the players to discuss what he expected of them, before later divulging his conversation on Twitter.

As I talked to the team the other day, I don't think ppl with talent can succeed without hard working, team spirit and commitment.

Xia revealed that he expected hard work, spirit and commitment from his players as they push for a return to the top flight of English football following their embarrassing 2015-16 display.

The Chinese businessman also confirmed on Twitter that Traore will be leaving the club, explaining the player was not happy last season as his Villa Park exit nears.
