Aston Villa Set to Seal Reported £3m Signing of Nottingham Forest Ace Imminently

"?Aston Villa are on the cusp of securing the signing of Nottingham Forest midfielder Henri Lansbury in a reported £3m deal.

The Villans look set to land the 26-year-old by Friday, according to "?BBC Sport, after their bid was accepted by Forest's hierarchy - beating Forest's Black Country rivals Derby County to his signature in the process.

Lansbury's current contract at the City Ground expires at the end of the season and, with the midfield ace not looking to extend his stay, Forest have chosen to cut their losses and accept the cut-price fee for one of their star men.

Lansbury has been part of the furniture at Forest ever since he completed a £1m move from Arsenal in the summer of 2012, but his future now lies at Villa Park as Steve Bruce continues to reshape the squad he inherited from Roberto Di Matteo in October.

The ex-Hull and Sunderland boss has already been active in the January transfer window, with Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone joining on loan until the end of the season and Rudy Gestede departing to join Middlesbrough.

The Manchester United legend is now due to also nab Lansbury and, providing all of the necessary paperwork is completed before Friday lunchtime, he could be in line to make his debut in the home clash with Preston North End on Saturday.

Lansbury was expected to be the next big star to emerge from Arsenal's youth academy, and he made his senior bow under Arsene Wenger in the 3-0 League Cup victory over Sheffield United in October 2007.

He turned out eight times for Arsenal's first-team across his five-year spell with the Gunners' senior setup, and enjoyed loan spells away from the club with Scunthorpe United, Watford, Norwich City and West Ham United between 2008 and 2012.

However, after failing to make the grade at the Emirates, Lansbury opted to leave North London and head for pastures new - a move that resulted in him joining Forest. The centre midfielder has featured 150 times for the two-time European Cup winners, and has bagged 33 goals during his time at the City Ground.
