Aston Villa Owner Tony Xia Tweets Response Regarding Di Matteo's Future

Published on: 27 September 2016

"?New Aston Villa Chairman Tony Xia has taken to Twitter to respond to claims that manager Roberto Di Matteo only has two games to save his job at the club.

Xia has taken to Twitter to dismiss claims made by The Guardian, reassuring fans that he's sticking by his manager by stating: the "media knows something he does not know himself."?

Di Matteo, who won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2012, has found life in the Championship difficult. The club currently sit 17th in the table after five consecutive draws from their opening 10 matches.

As always, the medias knew something I would do that even I myself don't know. https://t.co/kBmj4RPttv

"?"?Villa were one of the league's biggest spenders, spending £60m to ensure a quick return to the Premier League, signing players such as Ross McCormack from fellow Championship side Fulham.

The Midlands side on Tuesday evening drew with Barnsley in a 1-1 draw, conceding a goal in the 90th minute, which means they have now dropped 11 points from winning positions so far this season.

Losses to both Bristol City, Sheffield Wednesday and League Two side Luton Town in the EFL Cup has seen some fans begin to turn on their manager who took over from Rémi Garde following the teams relegation in the summer.

Their next two fixtures see them travelling to Preston, before facing Wolves at home, and the manager will hope to kickstart their season from there. They are currently twelve points off the top spot, behind fellow relegated teams Norwich in second and Newcastle who sit 9th in the table.

Can't defend Di Matteo anymore. Tactically clueless! #AVFC
