"?Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of midfielder Henri Lansbury from Nottingham Forest in a deal worth around £3.5m.

The former Arsenal and West Ham United playmaker had caught the eye of Bruce during the first half of the season, despite playing in a struggling Forest side who are sitting just outside the relegation zone and have just sacked their manager Philippe Montanier.

The 26-year-old, whose contract at the City ground ran out this summer, joins a Villa side who are slowly climbing the table under boss Steve Bruce after completing his medical earlier today.

Lansbury has started the season in the Championship well, scoring six goals in 19 appearances, and will look to bolster Villa's attacking options in the side who are currently only averaging just a goal a game, with 26 goals from 26 games.

Villa weren't the only Championship side interested in the rugged middle-man, with Derby County having a bid rejected by Forest for the player, however, with a new manager yet to be confirmed for the former European Champions, the club saw fit to cash in while they could.
