Aston Villa have announced the arrival of 18-year-old winger Ibrahim Mbaye from Paris Saint-Germain, with the Senegal international set to continue his career in the English Premier League.
The move was confirmed by Aston Villa on the club’s official website. Mbaye, who operates as a wide forward, has left Paris Saint-Germain to join the Premier League club.
Reports in the media say Mbaye has agreed a five-year contract with Aston Villa. The transfer fee is believed to be worth €55m, although that figure has been reported rather than confirmed in the club’s announcement.
Mbaye came through the Paris Saint-Germain academy and developed within the French club’s youth system before making his senior appearance for the Parisian side. He made 42 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain’s first team in all competitions.
During those matches, the 18-year-old scored four goals and provided four assists. His move to Aston Villa represents a switch from Paris Saint-Germain’s senior squad to a club competing in the English top flight.
The transfer comes at the beginning of a difficult new Premier League season for Aston Villa. The club have lost their opening two matches, conceding five goals without scoring in either game. Their combined score across those defeats is 0-5.
Mbaye therefore joins Aston Villa after the club’s winless start, with the Senegalese winger becoming the latest attacking option available to the team. His arrival has been formally announced by the club, while the reported €55m fee and five-year agreement provide the financial and contractual details surrounding the transfer.
The winger’s previous experience has come entirely through the Paris Saint-Germain pathway and first team. Across his 42 senior appearances for the club, he registered four goals and four assists before moving to Aston Villa.
For Paris Saint-Germain, the transfer brings an end to Mbaye’s time with the club at senior level. For Aston Villa, it secures the signing of an 18-year-old player who has already featured regularly enough for the Parisian side to make 42 appearances across all competitions.
Mbaye will now continue his career in the Premier League with Aston Villa, following the club’s announcement of his move from Paris Saint-Germain.
