ASKO one step from CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round after 5-0 win

ASKO de Kara are 90 minutes away from the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup after their commanding 5-0 victory over AS ZAM in the first leg.

The Togolese side host the Nigerien club in the return fixture in Lome on Sunday, 13 September 2026, with kick-off scheduled for 15:30 GMT.

ASKO established a dominant position in Niamey after a goalless first half. Claude Klidje then opened the scoring and completed a double, before further goals from Zouminhi Kader Gueo, Marius Akpaho and Souleymane Coulibaly completed a comprehensive victory.

That second-half attacking display has left ASKO in control of the tie, with a five-goal advantage and no goals conceded in the opening match. The Kondona now need to manage that lead effectively in front of their home support rather than take unnecessary risks.

Their priority will be to remain organised and maintain their concentration. At the same time, the pressure on AS ZAM to attack could create opportunities for ASKO if spaces appear in the Nigerien defence.

AS ZAM face an exceptional challenge if they are to overturn the first-leg result. The Nigerien club must score at least five goals to draw level with ASKO, while also preventing the Togolese side from finding the net.

The scale of that task is underlined by the events in Niamey, where ASKO kept a clean sheet and scored five times after the interval. The return fixture therefore offers the visitors little margin for error as they attempt to keep the tie alive.

For ASKO, the objective is to complete the job in Lome and confirm their place in the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
