FC Barcelona and Super Falcons star Asisat Oshoala has expressed optimism for the future of Nigerian women’s football as preparations for the 2025 Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) intensify, Nigeriasoccernet.com can report.

The celebrated striker, a pivotal figure in the Super Falcons setup, is expected to lead the team in their quest for a record-extending 12th continental title.

Speaking during an X Space event hosted by Nigerian international Kenneth Omeruo, Oshoala shared her thoughts on the team’s recent challenges and her aspirations for the coming years.

"Despite not advancing past the group stage at the Olympics, we faced tough competition and gave a good account of ourselves," Oshoala said, acknowledging the team’s need to improve.

She emphasized the emergence of young talent from Nigeria's domestic league and the growing synergy among foreign-based players, signaling a brighter future for the team.

Looking ahead, the Barcelona striker reiterated her commitment to achieving success with the Super Falcons.

"As always, we have to focus on 2025 and seize another opportunity to get back to winning ways and bringing home trophies like we used to," she noted.

Oshoala highlighted the team’s improved mentality, healthy competition for spots, and the absence of automatic selections as factors fueling the squad’s hunger for success.

"2025 will be a better year. Everyone is eager to win, and we’ve had strong performances recently. If we maintain this momentum, WAFCON will be a great tournament for us," she added.

The next WAFCON is scheduled to take place in Morocco from July 5 to 26, 2025. Asisat Oshoala, a five-time African Women’s Player of the Year, will undoubtedly play a leading role in Nigeria’s campaign.

With a mix of emerging talent, experienced players, and renewed determination, the Super Falcons aim to reclaim their dominance on the continental stage. Fans will be eagerly watching to see how the team translates their preparations into success at the tournament.
