Ashanti Gold defender Tijani Joshua says their 1-0 victory over second place AshGold was vital as it kept them in touching distance to their First Capital Plus Premier League title.
The miners extended their lead at the summit of the league table thanks to a Yakubu Mohammed strike in the second half.
The win took them to 40 points and seven ahead of the second place Berekum Chelsea.
“It was a very big win even though the score was just one but the importance and believe it gives us is more,” Joshua told GHANAsoccernet.com
“I insist that we have won nothing yet but we are beginning to believe that we are almost there now with every passing game.”
The Miners will next travel to Kpando to take on Hearts of Lions as they narrow in on the league.
