Arsenal have scored in 18 consecutive Premier League matches after a 1-0 victory over Aston Villa secured a second-round win for Mikel Arteta’s side.
The London club needed only one goal to take all three points against Aston Villa. That result extended a scoring sequence which has now lasted through 18 successive league fixtures.
Arsenal’s latest achievement means the club have continued to find the net in every Premier League match since their previous failure to score on 17 January. On that occasion, they were held to a goalless draw by Nottingham Forest.
The current run is Arsenal’s strongest in this category since the period between August 2018 and January 2019. During that earlier sequence, the club scored in 20 consecutive Premier League matches.
Although the victory over Aston Villa was decided by a single goal, it was enough to preserve Arsenal’s momentum at the start of the current league campaign. The result also ensured that their scoring record remained intact after the opening two rounds.
Arteta’s team will attempt to extend the sequence again in their next Premier League fixture, when they face Chelsea.
