It was a sad day for Nigerian international Anthony Nwakaeme and his Trabzonspor teammates as they began the new Turkish Super Lig campaign on a losing note at the weekend.

Nwakaeme was on parade for the Trabzonspor from starting to the end of the game in their first game of the 2020-2021 season against Besiktas on Sunday.

The Super Eagles striker and his teammates were outclassed at home, with Besiktas running away with a 3 – 1 victory.

Tyler Boyd gave the visitors the lead in the 29th minutes, before scoring the second from the penalty spot in 62nd minutes.

Besiktas were awarded a penalty, after Trabzonspor defender, Flavio committed a foul in the penalty box and Bernard Mensah made no mistake from the six yards.

Jeremiah Lens scored Besiktas’s third to put the game beyond their hosts with 16 minutes left on the clock.

Trabzonspor scored their consolation goal in the 88th minutes, thanks to a well-taken strike from Abdulkadir Omur.
