Anthony Gordon says Barcelona team-mate Pedri ‘sees runs nobody else does’

Anthony Gordon says Pedri’s exceptional vision has helped him settle quickly at Barcelona after his blockbuster summer move from Newcastle United.

Gordon joined the LaLiga champions ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, having previously described playing for the Catalan giants as a lifelong dream. The former Everton winger has made an immediate impact, registering four assists in 2026/27.

The England international has also established himself as Hansi Flick’s first choice on the left wing. Raphinha has moved into a central role following the departures of Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres, creating a regular starting position for Gordon.

Gordon is returning to Barcelona after spending two weeks away with England. He is due to link up again with Pedri when Barcelona face Getafe on October 10th.

The 2026/27 campaign is Gordon’s first at the club, but he says Barcelona’s approach has similarities with the football he experienced at Newcastle United.

“What Barcelona represents for me is that the opponent touches the ball as little as possible. Now we also have aggression,” Gordon said. “I've adapted well because it's a very similar style of play to Newcastle.

“The main difference with the Premier League is the intensity; in LaLiga everything is more deliberate and based on control and possession.”

Gordon believes Pedri has given him an added attacking outlet by recognising movements that previously went unnoticed.

“I've made many runs throughout my career that nobody saw, but now Pedri sees them,” he said.

The changes to Barcelona’s attack have allowed Gordon to make the left side his own, while Raphinha’s central deployment has followed the exits of Lewandowski and Torres.

Gordon said his ambitions extend beyond individual performances and that he expects Barcelona to challenge for every available honour.

“I want to win every title, and we have the squad to achieve it,” he said.
