Ismael Saibari is expected to be out for about three months after undergoing surgery on an ankle injury sustained in Bayern Munich’s 2-2 draw with Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, according to Bild.
The Morocco international was injured during the German league fixture and required an operation to treat the problem. His recovery will now involve an extended period away from competition before he can resume playing.
The setback is a significant blow for Saibari, who faces a lengthy rehabilitation programme before he can return to full fitness. His priority will be to regain his physical condition completely before considering a return to competitive football.
Morocco forced to review midfield options
Saibari’s absence also affects Morocco’s preparations for their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying fixtures against Niger.
The Lions of the Atlas are due to face Niger on 13 and 17 November, but Saibari will miss both matches because of his ankle injury.
Morocco manager Mohamed Ouahbi must now make alternative plans in midfield and will have to proceed without one of his available options for those qualifiers.
