Ghana winger Andre Ayew is in contention to be named the best African player in the French top-flight this season on Monday thanks to his excellent showing for Marseille this season.

The Marseille playmaker is among the favourites to be named for the Marc Vivien Foe award when the winner is announced tomorrow at a ceremony in Paris.

But the Ghana international faces competition from Monaco and Tunisia defender Aymen Abdennour and St. Ettiene's Ivorian ace IMax Gradel for

Ayew, who will leave Olympique Marseille at the end of the season, has been influential for Les Phoceens and has scored ten goals in the top-flight.

Abdennour is also highly rated after reaching the last eight of this season’s UEFA Champions League.

Gradel’s 15 goals in 30 Ligue 1 matches make him a serious contender.

The award is named after Marc Vivien Foe, the Cameroon midfielder who collapsed and died while playing for the Indomitable Lions during the 1997 FIFA Confederation Cup in France.

Ayew actually deserves to be named not only African footballer of the year in France but also "footballer of the year in France" this year. He's been incredible. No contest. That should also make him African footballer of the year by the end of the year. Yaya Toure has not been superb this time.
