Nigeria U17 coach Emmanuel Amuneke has tagged hosts Senegal as favourites to reach the final of the U23 AFCON today at the expense of Nigeria.
However, Amuneke, who led Nigeria to win a fifth U17 World Cup in Chile last month, said he expects Nigeria U23s to improve on your showings in Senegal thus.
"From what we have seen during the group stage, I think that Senegal are the favourites (to win the tournament). But a team like Algeria (face South Africa in the second semi-final) can cause an upset,” Amuneke told Le Buteur.
“As for Nigeria, they are capable of doing better than what they have shown so far."
Nigeria have won one and drawn two matches, while Senegal playing in front of their home fans have won all three group games.
In September, both teams played out a 1-1 draw at the All Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville.
