Former Milan midfielder Massimo Ambrosini said neither Juventus nor Milan impressed after the sides drew 1-1 in the third round of Serie A.
Milan appeared to be heading for victory after Alphadjo Cisse put the visitors ahead in the 68th minute. Juventus avoided defeat, however, when Federico Gatti equalised in the 92nd minute to rescue a point for the home side.
Assessing the match, Ambrosini delivered a blunt verdict on the performance of both teams, saying: “Neither team impressed.”
The result leaves the two sides level on seven points after three matches. Juventus, managed by Luciano Spalletti, and Milan, coached by Ruben Amorim, have therefore taken the same number of points from the opening three rounds of the league.
For Milan, the late equaliser meant the team could not convert its lead into a victory. Cisse’s goal had placed the visitors in front with 22 minutes of normal time remaining, but Juventus continued to have an opportunity to respond before the final whistle.
That response came deep into added time, when Gatti scored in the 92nd minute. His goal changed the outcome from a Milan win to a draw and ensured Juventus avoided losing the match on home ground.
The 1-1 scoreline means both sides remain unbeaten across the opening three rounds in terms of points collected, with each having reached seven points. Neither team was able to move clear of the other following the meeting.
Ambrosini, a well-known former Milan player, focused on the overall standard of the contest rather than celebrating either side’s contribution. His assessment followed a match in which Milan led for much of the closing stages but Juventus found a late route back into the game.
The draw provides both teams with a further point, although Milan will view the result differently after surrendering its advantage in the final moments. Juventus, meanwhile, will take satisfaction from Gatti’s late intervention after falling behind in the second half.
With seven points apiece after three Serie A fixtures, the teams remain closely matched in the early league standings. Their next results will determine whether either can build momentum, but the immediate conclusion from Ambrosini was clear: the meeting failed to produce a performance that significantly impressed him.
