With the new English Championship season on the horizon, Premier League great Darren Ambrose has voiced strong belief in Nigerian forward Chuba Akpom, reports Nigeriasoccernet.com.
Akpom, who recently made his return to English football, has joined Ipswich Town after spells in the Netherlands with Ajax and in France with LOSC Lille. He is tipped to be a key figure in Ipswich’s bid for promotion to the Premier League.
“I think he’ll be the main man, the main focal point wherever he goes,” Ambrose said.
Following Liam Delap’s move to Chelsea, Akpom is considered the perfect replacement to lead the attack. Ambrose commended his wealth of experience and proven goal-scoring ability, referencing his time with clubs such as Nottingham Forest, Middlesbrough, and Hull City.
“He came through the ranks at Arsenal, so you know he has the talent. He’s played across various leagues in Europe and has valuable experience that can benefit Ipswich.”
Still, Ambrose stressed that further reinforcements are necessary after the departures of key players like Delap and Sam Morsy.
“If Ipswich can get this deal over the line and maybe add a couple more players, it’ll be a great move for them,” the former Crystal Palace midfielder concluded.
