Alonso issues Hudson-Odoi plea

Published on: 10 January 2019

Marcos Alonso has urged Chelsea team-mate Callum Hudson-Odoi to reject Bayern Munich's advances and stay at Stamford Bridge.

The highly-rated 18-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the reigning German Bundesliga champions in this transfer window after they matched the Blues' £35million valuation of him.

Bayern's sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic also confirmed that Hudson-Odoi, "is a very interesting player we really want to sign".

We are Chelsea, another great team, the Premier League is the most competitive league in the world, I don't know why someone would go to Bayern Munich.

It was suggested that Hudson-Odoi was keen to move to the Allianz Arena because of his lack of game time at Chelsea, but boss Maurizio Sarri has started him in the FA Cup third round win against Nottingham Forest on Saturday and Tuesday's Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg defeat at Tottenham.

Sarri has made no secret of his desire to keep the teenager in west London, while Alonso has now spoken out to claim that it would be a backward step if Hudson-Odoi moved to Bayern.

The Spain international full-back said: "He is a good player, but he is very young.

"He needs to have patience and to be hungry and fight for a place in this team.

"That is all he needs to do, he has all the conditions to be a great player, now it is up to him to fight for a place here or try to find more minutes somewhere else.

"Bayern Munich? We are Chelsea, another great team, the Premier League is the most competitive league in the world, I don't know why someone would go to Bayern Munich."

Chelsea are 4/11 to secure a top four finish in the Premier League, while they are priced at 4/1 to win the Europa League.
