Algeria Women aim to complete Olympic qualifying job against Central African Republic

Algeria Women face the Central African Republic on Tuesday in the second leg of the second round of the African preliminary qualifiers for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

Farid Benstiti’s side take a commanding advantage into the match after an 8-0 victory in the first leg in Algiers four days earlier. The return fixture will be played at the Hocine Ait Ahmed Stadium in Tizi-Ouzou, with kick-off scheduled for 19:00 French time and 18:00 in Algeria.

No broadcaster has been announced in France. Viewers in Algeria will be able to watch the match live on ENTV and TV6.

The first leg took place at the 5 July 1962 Stadium on 9 October, where Algeria produced a dominant display against the Bamara of Bas-Oubangui. The result leaves the Algerian team almost certain to progress to the third preliminary round, although they must still complete the tie on home soil.

Seven different Algeria players scored in the first meeting, in addition to an own goal from Central African Republic captain Havila Ndoumba. Marine Dafeur, Lina Boussaha, Sofia Bekhaled, Naili Nouhed, Ines Belloumou, Lynda Bendris and debutant Nesrime Bahlouli were all on the scoresheet.

A successful conclusion to the tie would move the bronze medallists from the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations closer to what would be a historic Olympic qualification. Three final hurdles would then stand between Algeria and a place at the Olympic tournament.

Potential third-round opponents

Algeria could meet Burkina Faso in the next round. Burkina Faso defeated Equatorial Guinea 3-1 in Ouagadougou in the first leg of their tie, with the second meeting also due to take place on Tuesday.

The Algerian side will therefore look to confirm their progress against the Central African Republic before turning their attention to the next stage of the qualifying competition.
