Former MFM FC and Olympic Eagles defender, Akpudje Joshua has joined Finnish side Tampereen Ilves. after completing his routine medical, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

He joins from Georgian Club, Dinamo Tbilisi after his time with Czech Republic side FK Jablonec who helped stay in the top division.

The contract between Ilves and Akpudje is for the rest of the season and includes the club's option for next season.

"It's great to be in Finland. Tampere is a wonderful city and the stadium is beautiful. I also know that many young players have been successful here. Now I get to show my best here and give something to my team and its supporters."

Akpudje states that as a player on the pitch he takes responsibility and gives his all.

Sports director Miika Takkula says Akpudje's addition reinforces the backline of the team.

"With the long-term injuries of Samba Benga and Felipe Aspegren, we needed reinforcements in defense. Joshua Akpudje is a physically strong and combative player who already has a relatively large amount of experience in European football. He brings much-needed depth to our defensive line and a slightly different player profile for coaching use."

The 25-year-old started his professional career in the Nigeria Premier Football League with MFM FC after being scouted from the Lagos State Principal’s Cup.

He joined Latvian league side BFC Daugavpils in March 2020 after leaving MFM.
