Nigerian midfielder Ebenezer Akinsanmiro featured as Monza were held to a 1-1 draw by Parma in Sunday’s Serie A encounter.
It was Akinsanmiro’s second appearance for Monza this season, with the Super Eagles player having registered one assist so far in the campaign.
The midfielder produced a disciplined display in the centre of the pitch, helping to limit Parma’s attacking threat and ensuring the hosts were unable to create many clear opportunities.
Monza took the lead in the 38th minute through Jay Robinson. The visitors’ forward found the far bottom corner with a powerful right-footed shot from the edge of the penalty area.
Parma were fortunate not to fall further behind before half-time. Monza launched a counterattack through Omari Forson, but Mariano Troilo made an important block to deny the move.
Monza then came close to doubling their advantage when Andrea Colpani’s finish took a deflection. The effort appeared destined to cross the line, but the combination of the crossbar and Corvi’s fingertips kept Parma in the contest.
The home side eventually restored parity in the 60th minute. Simone Lontani found a route through a crowded penalty area and guided the ball into the far bottom corner from 12 yards using the inside of his right foot.
Both teams pushed for a winning goal during the remaining half-hour, but neither was able to make the decisive breakthrough.
The result meant Parma and Monza shared the points after 90 minutes, with Akinsanmiro completing his second appearance of the season as Monza secured a draw away from home.
The Nigerian’s contribution in midfield was particularly important during a match in which Parma struggled to build sustained pressure. Monza had led for much of the game after Robinson’s first-half strike, but Lontani’s equaliser ensured the hosts avoided defeat.
Akinsanmiro is one of a number of Nigerian players attracting attention in European football, and his latest appearance adds to his involvement with Monza this season. He has so far supplied one assist, while continuing to establish himself in the squad.
Despite creating opportunities to extend their lead, Monza could not convert their advantage into a second goal. Troilo’s block and the late intervention involving the crossbar and Corvi denied them what would have been a potentially decisive 2-0 lead.
Parma, meanwhile, showed resilience after falling behind and were rewarded for their efforts when Lontani levelled the contest. However, neither side could produce a winner, leaving the match evenly poised at the final whistle.
