Manuel Akanji has admitted that Inter Milan made too many mistakes in their derby defeat to AC Milan on Sunday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

AC Milan secured a narrow 1–0 victory in the highly anticipated derby encounter thanks to a 35th-minute strike from Pervis Estupiñán.

Reacting to the result in an interview with the club’s official website, Akanji said Inter failed to show enough aggression and allowed their rivals too many opportunities, particularly in the first half.

“Milan played the game we expected, but in the first half, we made a lot of mistakes and gave them several opportunities,” Akanji said.

“The two derbies were completely different. In the first leg, we dominated, and they scored in their only chance, this time we made too many mistakes and weren’t aggressive enough. That’s why we lost.

“You’re not happy when you lose a derby, but the good thing is that we still have seven more points than Milan.”
