Ajax have made an approach for Osasuna defender Enzo Boyomo, sporting director Braulio Vazquez has confirmed, although the Liga club appears reluctant to approve a loan deal for the Cameroon international.
Boyomo, who has won nine caps for Cameroon, is wanted by the Amsterdam club as the Dutch winter transfer window moves towards its conclusion. Ajax, four-time winners of the UEFA Champions League, have until Wednesday evening to complete any potential transfer.
Vazquez spoke before Osasuna’s Liga match against Getafe on Monday night, using his pre-match news conference to express frustration at the timing of transfer activity.
“I preach in the desert, but the transfer window is not over and the third matchday has already started... tell me,” he said, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.
The Osasuna sporting director confirmed that Ajax are among the clubs interested in the 24-year-old central defender, while also indicating that the club has received other approaches.
“There have been other offers, and not just this one. Enzo has great value. With 30 hours left in the transfer window, we would not even consider a substantial offer, because we believe that beyond the financial aspect, we must get the best out of Enzo. That is why clubs like Ajax want him,” said Vazquez.
His comments suggest Osasuna’s priority is to retain Boyomo rather than sanction a late departure, particularly if the proposed move would initially be structured as a loan.
“I hope he stays, so that we can build the best team possible,” Vazquez added.
The statement leaves Ajax with limited time to reach an agreement. The club must finalise any deal by Wednesday evening, when the winter transfer window closes in the Netherlands.
Vazquez’s comments also underline Osasuna’s view that Boyomo’s importance extends beyond his potential transfer fee. The club believes the defender can make a significant contribution on the pitch during the remainder of the season, and is therefore unwilling to consider even a sizeable offer so close to the deadline.
Boyomo’s international experience with Cameroon and his position at the centre of Osasuna’s defence have helped attract interest from Ajax. However, the Spanish club’s sporting director has made clear that financial terms alone may not be enough to persuade Osasuna to let him leave.
For now, Ajax’s interest has been publicly acknowledged, but the final decision remains with Osasuna. Ajax’s remaining opportunity to complete the proposed move will come before the Dutch deadline on Wednesday evening.
