Africa: Ayew’s debut ends in disaster; limps off injured

The Ghana international who made his West Ham debut in Monday’s London derby was left wishing for more action when he limped off injured after 33 minutes. Andre Ayew who featured in his new side’s starting 11 in their 2:1 defeat to London rivals Chelsea, pulled a muscle in the 32nd minute as he chased down Chelsea and Belgium winger, Eden Hazard. The West Ham United record signing clutched to his right thigh in pain as he suddenly gave up in an attempt to close down the Chelsea star.

After a brief check up on the Ghanaian, West Ham’s medical staff advised manager, Slaven Bilic to substitute the 26 year old. Ayew was replaced by Gokhan Tore in the 33rd minute. Eden Hazard put Chelsea ahead via a well deserved penalty kick in the 47th minute. West Ham managed to restore parity through James Collins in the 77th minute only for the Blues to reinstate their lead through Chelsea apex predator, Diego Costa.
