Crowd trouble marred the match between host nation Equatorial Guinea and Ghana throughout the 90 minutes.
The game was stopped on two separate occasions due to the trouble, which saw Equatorial Guinea supporters throwing missiles on to the field and at Ghanaian fans.
"It's now like a war zone," the Ghana Football Association (GFA) tweeted.
The match was stopped early in the second half as riot police formed a tunnel with their shields for the Black Stars squad to leave the field.
The game resumed before being stopped again eight minutes from time. Ghanaian supporters were shepherded out of the stands and to the side of the pitch to escape the Equatorial Guinea fans.
A police helicopter oversaw the forthcoming minutes, with Ghana fans led to the players' tunnel to be evacuated out of the ground. Equatorial Guinea skipper Emilio Nsue took to the microphone to appeal for calm in the stands.
The match commenced after being halted for more than half an hour, with many supporters having left the stadium after the police had used teargas to try and help the situation. Only three more minutes were played before the referee blew for time.
A first-half penalty from Jordan Ayew and second-half strikes from Wakaso Mubarak and Andre Ayew sealed Ghana's progression through to the final, where they will take on the Ivory Coast.
Equatorial Guinea will face DR Congo in the 3rd/4th place playoff.
